Crowns & Bridges

Dental crowns and bridges are the most common treatment option for patients they want to replace their missing and damaged teeth.  Both of these treatments are anchored either on your existing teeth or to a dental implant.  Dental crowns and bridges are both very effective in restoring or replacing damaged and missing teeth.  If you are considering replacing your missing teeth or restoring their normal function, we can guide you through the different teeth restoration options that we have available and make recommendations as to which treatment will best address your dental concerns.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a tooth cap that is designed to mimic the structure of the tooth.  This can effectively cover tooth damage and restore the normal appearance of your tooth.  A dental crown can be made from a combination of metals, dental composite, or porcelain.

A dental crown is recommended to our patients who have severely worn down or damaged teeth.  A dental crown is the best restorative option for a tooth that is fractured or cracked because it can reinforce the strength of the tooth structure, restore its function, and eliminate the need for tooth extraction.  Dental crowns can also be used to anchor dental bridges and provide a stable foundation for it.

What is a bridge?

A dental bridge is the most common restoration recommended for patients who have lost a couple of teeth.  Each end of a dental bridge has an abutment, which will anchor the bridge to the patient’s existing teeth.  The gap in between will be filled with artificial teeth or pontics. With the advancement in dental technology, bridges are now very natural looking and convenient to use.  When anchored to a dental implant or a dental crown, patients have the option to make a dental bridge a fixed appliance for their comfort and convenience.  Filling in the gap created by missing teeth can help maintain the shape of the face, allows the patient to eat and speak normally, and can prevent the teeth from shifting out of position.  A dental bridge will definitely improve your appearance and give you back your self-confidence.
